About SORIPA-NIGER

Our Mission and Vision

At SORIPA, our mission is to provide quality rice that meets the needs of our customers while promoting sustainable agricultural practices. We envision a future where every household in Niger has access to nutritious and affordable rice, contributing to national food security and economic development.

As of early 2024, over 1,500 people from 176 localities, 25 countries, and 4 continents have joined the RP movement. Our community is diverse, including both large and small producers, as well as individuals with varying levels of expertise in rice farming and business management.

Our Team

Board of Directors (CA)

  • Kalilou Seydou Moussa – President – Leads the Board and represents SORIPA in various capacities.

Supervisory Board (CS)

  • The Supervisory Board members were elected during the first General Assembly on January 28, 2024. Their roles include overseeing the management and ensuring accountability within the organization. The board is composed of distinguished members, including Mr. Adamou Kaka LE DES, Mr. Bachir Rabo,  Mr. Issa Laouel, Mr. Idi Sani, Mrs. Fassouma Zara, and Mr. Toudou Daouda. Each member brings valuable expertise and a commitment to advancing SORIPA’s mission of enhancing local rice production and availability.

Provisional Directorate (DPRP)

  • A temporary management body responsible for coordinating daily activities and guiding the formation of SORIPA during its startup phase. This team comprises volunteers and operates across several thematic committees focused on aspects like operations, finance, and institutional management.

Internal Regulations of SORIPA

General Provisions

  • The Internal Regulations complement and clarify the Statutes of SORIPA, defining its organization and functioning as a Cooperative Society with a Board of Directors (SCOOP-CA).
  • Membership is open to any individual or entity that accepts the conditions set forth in the Statutes and Internal Regulations. Withdrawal from the cooperative is voluntary and can be done after fulfilling all obligations.

Governance and Structure

  • General Assembly: The supreme decision-making body of SORIPA, consisting of all members. It meets annually to review the year’s activities and plan for the next year.
  • Board of Directors: Composed of 12 members elected for a renewable 5-year term. The Board oversees the cooperative’s operations, meeting at least four times a year.
  • Supervisory Board: Comprised of 3-5 members, elected for a 5-year term. The board monitors and ensures the cooperative’s proper functioning.

Discipline and Sanctions

  • Members are required to fulfill their obligations as defined in the Internal Regulations. Failure to do so may result in penalties, including fines, warnings, suspension, or exclusion from the cooperative.

Financial Resources and Management

  • The financial resources of SORIPA come from member shares, government grants, donations, and income from services. The minimum shareholding is set at 100,000 FCFA.
  • Proper management of funds is emphasized, with sanctions for any mismanagement.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • President: Leads the Board of Directors and represents SORIPA in civic and civil matters.
  • Secretary: Manages documentation, correspondence, and records.
  • Treasurer: Manages the cooperative’s funds and ensures financial accountability.
  • Director: Oversees daily operations and ensures the implementation of the General Assembly’s decisions.

Dispute Resolution

  • Disputes between members are first addressed amicably, with escalation to the Board of Directors if necessary. Disputes between SORIPA and external parties may be taken to court if unresolved.

Final Provisions

  • The Internal Regulations are binding on all members and can be amended by the General Assembly as needed.
